Why Do Hair Extensions Have a Bad Reputation?

Why Do Hair Extensions Have a Bad Reputation?

We’re not going to sugarcoat it; we know that a lot of people have a lot of bad opinions on hair extensions. After working for more than 25 years in this industry, we’ve heard them all. But knowing why extensions have such a bad reputation has allowed us to distinguish the LDL brand from the rest.

The truth is that the negativity surrounding hair extensions is usually the result of buying a low-quality product. Today, we’re going to discuss some of the most common reasons why extensions have a bad reputation, and how investing in the right product will help you avoid these problems.

Reason #1 – “They’re processed.”

While it’s true that some types of hair extensions are a processed, manufactured product, this is certainly not the case for all of them. Factory made extensions are usually created from dark hair (usually of Indian or Asian origins) that is then bleached, dyed and chemically coated to appear differently. This process completely compromises the integrity of the hair – and, unfortunately, this means the person who ends up wearing it won’t get the luscious, beautiful look they’re after.

Here at LDL, however, we do things differently. All our wefts are created using authentically Virgin, Caucasian hair, meaning it has never been chemically altered in any way. This ensures the hair is perfectly healthy and beautiful when it is made into your custom extensions, providing you with a long-lasting look.

Unfortunately, mass-produced options are all too common across the hair extension industry. Some suppliers even label this processed product as ‘Virgin’ or ‘Russian’ to trick consumers into believing they’re buying high quality hair. This is why it’s so important to do your research before purchasing extensions.

The truth is that most ‘bad’ perceptions of hair extensions come from this factory product. But if you invest in a beautiful, Virgin head of hair, you will simply get to enjoy luscious locks for years.

Reason 2 – “They don’t look natural.”

It goes without saying that you want your hair extensions to look and feel like your real hair. They should blend flawlessly with your natural locks in both colour and style, with no obvious ‘disconnect’ between your real hair and your extensions.

So, how do you ensure you get an undetectable finish? Well, there are a number of factors involved. First of all, you need to invest in a custom-made product. Hair extensions that come ready-made in a packet won’t give you the flawless look you desire, because they won’t fit your head – or your needs – in the way they should. Here at LDL, we hand craft custom wefts for each and every one of our clients for this very reason. The result is a style that looks completely seamless whether you’re walking out of the salon or have just woken up in the morning.

Another important aspect of getting natural looking extensions is the type of hair you choose. Again, this is where factory products will never provide the lasting look you want. Over time, processed hair will become matted and tangled, separating itself from your natural locks in the process.

Reason #3 – “They only last a couple of months.”

We’ll cut straight to the chase: high-quality extensions made from authentic, Virgin hair will not need to be replaced for years. Factory extensions, on the other hand, will only last you anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. The health and integrity of the hair you’re buying is absolutely paramount to how much wear-time you will get out of them. This is why Virgin hair will always be best – because it hasn’t been compromised with chemicals and will stay looking gorgeous so long as it is treated well.

Reason #4 – “They’re difficult to maintain.”

You shouldn’t need to spend a fortune or excessive amounts of time keeping your extensions looking fabulous. High-quality hair – that is, genuinely Virgin, Caucasian hair – acts just like your natural locks. Because it hasn’t been chemically processed in any way, this hair won’t matt and tangle as you wear it. As such, all you need to do is use a good shampoo and conditioner and invest in a treatment to use every few weeks. It’s as easy as that!

On the other hand, factory extensions will not offer the same effortless result. These pre-made extensions are coated with various chemicals to make them look beautiful and smooth when you first have them installed. However, the unfortunate reality is that after one or two washes, these chemicals will wear away and you’ll be left with hair that is over-processed and extremely hard to manage. The truth is that no amount of product will make this damage hair look or feel amazing – so buying high-quality locks is the only way to go if you want a beautiful result.

Reason #5 – “You can’t wear them like you would your natural hair.”

Who says you can’t? Not us! Here at LDL, our gorgeous handmade wefts are designed to be worn exactly how you want to wear them. Whether you’re using heated styling tools before a night out, wearing them in braids or simply jumping out of the shower and letting them dry naturally, our extensions always look flawless. To ensure they flawlessly match your real locks, we will help you choose hair that matches your natural style – whether that’s curly, wavy, straight or somewhere in between.

When you choose premium quality extensions like the type we use here at LDL, you simply need to treat with them with the same care as you would your real locks. This means washing them with a good shampoo and conditioner and regularly treating it to maintain moisture and health.
